The Hosting Scheme

So your book isn't everybody's cup of tea? That doesn't mean its not worthwhile, it just means it will be difficult to find a publisher, because unfortunately they have to cover their costs and try to make a profit, so they can only invest in books guaranteed to give them a sizeable profit. That is why so many publishers stay with the same authors and are very cautious about promoting work by an new author.

So why not do it yourself? As a self-publisher you will be in good company, many great authors had the same problem and quite a few resorted to self-publishing at some stage in their lives.

This is how it works -

We will host your book for an annual fee and collect payments for sales on your behalf. Bookselecta will convert your book into an ebook, even edit the text and design a cover for you if you ask us to; but the rest is up to you, the more work you do in promoting your book, the better chance it has in succeeding and in earning you money.

These are the costs involved, including some options that you may choose from to help improve your book and increase its chance of success.

The only required payments are the annual hosting fee, our commission on sales and our basic editing service. We will accept your own cover designs in ready to compile formats.
Note: Full editing fee is based on manuscripts of up to 90,000 words & subject to inspection.

Returns

Your published book will then be placed for sale on the Bookselecta website at an RRP of £2.00 which will be discounted to £1.50 to encourage readers to use our website. Other retailers will pay a Wholesale price of £1 for each download.
Bookselecta will charge you a commission of 25p per download to cover administrative costs and merchant charges. The rest will be passed on to you.

Your total net returns will therefore be £1.25p per download on books sold by Bookselecta and 0.75p on books sold by other retailers. Bookselecta do NOT charge a retailer commission.

From this you can work out the income you are likely to receive. For instance after the initial set up costs, you will only need to sell about 50 downloads a year to break even. (assuming 50% of sales are from the Bookselecta website and 50% through other retailers)
Of course you could achieve a much greater return than this; it depends on how well your book is received, and more importantly, how hard you are prepared to work to promote it. The more people you tell, the better it will do.
