The Trial

Bookselecta can publish your book now!

Submit your manuscript and it will be compiled as an ebook and placed in our New Book section within days, for all the world to see & read! It will stay there for two months, on trial, to see what readers think of it. Its progress will be monitored and successful books WILL then be published.

The writers of books chosen for publication will receive an immediate payment of £100 in advance of royalties - their book will be thoroughly edited, receive a new cover image, recompiled, and not only placed on sale at bookselecta but distributed worldwide via a network of over 100 leading ebook retailers!

The Trial

How does it work?
Your book will be available for FREE download for a period of two months. Downloads will be available to readers in two sections and the 'hits' received will be used to dynamically adjust our 'Top Ten' chart. We also collect a set of statistics and obtain feedback from readers.

Publishing Decisions
Readers decide, not us!
At the end of The Trial we look at the statistics collected for your book and the comments of readers.

  • Total Number of Downloads
  • Ratio of Part 1 to Part 2 Downloads
  • Reader Feedback

These results determine whether we publish your book or not. It is all down to how well your book was received.

How do I submit my book for the trial?
You submit your manuscript and details on-line, but first you must make sure you have checked your manuscript thoroughly and have all the information we need. See preparing my manuscript.

Once you have everything ready sign up, choosing your role as WRITER, or log-on if you are already signed up as a writer. Select The Trial and simply follow the instructions to send your manuscript to us. Within 1 week your book will be compiled and available from the New Book section. You can keep an eye on its progress in the Top Ten and access statistics from the Writers side menu each time you log-on.

What does it Cost?
There is a one off administration fee of £20 (appx $US30).

It's as simple and clear as that. There is no need to spend any more valuable time trying to find a publisher when you could be concentrating on your next book and leaving us to do the work for you!

And for established authors, we challenge you to test your work and so give aspiring new authors the opportunity to achieve what you have - You are sure to remember the business of getting your first book published and indeed how lucky you were to find the right person to read it! By placing your work alongside theirs, you will help us promote this service.

And for those that don't succeed in 'The Trial' all is not lost. Perhaps your book is of a more specialised nature, not likely to attract the attention of a mainstream publisher, possibly your book needs editing or its presentation improving, or it may just be a 'slow starter' requiring promotional work. So why not consider doing some of the promotional work yourself and become a self publisher - you won't be alone - many respected writers have had to follow this route. If you are determined to see your book succeed then find out how we can help you with our 'Hosting Service'.

Preparing the manuscript

To make the best of this opportunity we strongly recommend that you spend time checking your work; its very easy to miss typos, even to give characters different names in different parts of your book. Use MS Word functions like grammar & spellchecker, ask a friend to proof read - do your very best to make certain that your manuscript is polished, is easy to read and captivates the reader. When readers download part 1 of your book you want them to read part 2 - there are a lot of points at stake & we look for at least a 25% follow on - if part 1 doesn't work, they won't bother with part 2!

Now that your happy with the content there are some details we insist on. We would like your manuscript in a single file, not separated into files for each chapter. This enables us to clean up the whole document; removing any unnecessary tabs, indents, returns or extra spaces. Label each chapter with a heading - chapter 1, chapter 2 etc; we need this so that we can find and separate your manuscript into chapters but don't worry if you have chapter names, we will remove the headings. Finally we prefer manuscripts in MS Word but can cope with most PC word processor formats.

As well as your manuscript we will need all the items listed below in the Check List.

Usually we do - we select about 10% of manuscripts for publication ourselves. And for those that don't succeed, there is another option - take a look at our Hosting service?

Preparing for Publication
Now we do our work. In consultation with you we edit your manuscript and design the cover; making certain your book is as good as it can be. There are no charges involved.

Worldwide distribution
Once published your book will be placed on-sale in our main book section. We will also place it on the Content Reserve server where it becomes available to over 100 ebook retailers around the world, including WH Smith, e-Penguin & Amazon. And you will now begin to earn royalties.

Publishing Agreement
When you initially submit your manuscript on-line the Publishing Agreement, in the form of an option will be displayed. This option automatically converts to a full agreement once you have been notified that your book has succeeded in the trial. Otherwise the Agreement lapses.

Other publishers
We work with other publishers and literary agents. In some cases they will show an interest in a book on trial and may take up the option of buying the publishing rights from us. In these cases we will notify you of the interest of that publisher and only sell the publishing rights to them if you agree. Any fee negotiated will be split equally between Bookselecta and yourself.

Other Offers
Once you have submitted your manuscript you have granted an option to Bookselecta over the publishing rights of this and your next two books. However, Bookselecta is an ebook publisher, and if at any stage you are offered a publishing contract in relation to a paper back, hardback or film version of the book, we will agree in most cases - subject to the condition that any other contract must not include e-publishing rights or infringe upon the rights we already hold.

Other Agreements
Before submitting your book for trial, you must be certain that the book is not subject to any existing agreements that are in existence. Also, during the period of the agreement with bookselecta, you must not enter into any other agreement without obtaining our prior consent in writing.
